Saturn's Moon Tethys Looks Exactly Like The Star Wars' 'Death Star'

Finally, "Star Wars" Death Star was real. In an image of Saturn's icy moon, Tethys looks exactly the Death Star.

Recently, NASA has shown an image of an icy moon. It was the Saturn's moon Tethys that according to people's perception, the moon looks exactly like the Death Star from the movie "Star Wars."

The image was taken a year ago by the effort of the Cassini spacecraft, Fox News reported. This means, if the photo of the Saturn's moon was taken just only last year, how come that George Lucas managed to create a Death Star similar to Tethys.

On a calculation, the image was taken in about 228,000 miles away from the Saturn's moon Tethys. However, though it was too far, the moon has a noticeably physical figure even from afar.

According to Space, Saturn's moon Tethys is the fifth largest moon of the planet. Eventually, NASA compared the Saturn's moon into an eyeball with a circular mark on its left.

The Saturn's moon Tethys has a number of interesting features that was seen closely at the image released by NASA. It has intriguing landmarks of big basin like whole on the left and enormous trench marking its surface.

It also has large arcs of red material which seems to be a bit mysterious on the Saturn's moon place. Its red color is very unusual to exist in the solar system, that specifically might be due to chemical impurities, gas from the core or other reasons.

Tethys orbit the Saturn at 183, 100 miles or a total of 294,660 kilometers. Its name was derived from the Greek mythology, the watery goddess, the wife of Oceanus and daughter of Uranus and Gaea.

Saturn's moon Tethys was discovered in 1684 by Giovanni Cassini, the same scientist who led the team from NASA which released a clear image of the moon. Together with Tethys is another moon named Dione on March 21.
