Sea Urchin Spines Now Repair Different Bone Problems With The New Biodegradable Material

Fixing different kinds of bone problems is common in the arena of medical treatment. Recently, scientists have unveiled a new material from sea urchin spines to acquire a better result.

Doctors from all over the world solve a huge number of bone-related problems. Sometimes patients need surgery and sometimes they need medication to overcome the problems. But, the new material from the sea urchin spines can provide a more developed outcome.

EurekAlert reported that bone is one of the most familiar transplanted tissue after the blood. Bone fractures and bone defects are the most common issues. Some fractures need surgeries that raise the necessity of the replacement material. Scientists now designed a marvelous material from the sea urchin spine to provide a long lasting and better effectiveness.

Every year, doctors and physicians perform more than two million bone related procedures. A good number of times physicians acquire replacement materials from different sources while doing those procedures. Synthetic product and donated tissue are very common factors in this field, but the crucial fact is, all these elements have specific lasting time frames. Sea urchin spines now can be the best alternative to overcome this problem.

Popular journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces reported the fact properly. Physicians use hydroxyapatite as scaffolds to fix many bone problems, but this bioceramic is brittle and can't provide a permanent solution. The sea urchin spines can play a major role as bone scaffolds to treat a good number of patients. This biological material is able to provide far better effectiveness with its strength and porosity.

Scientists have prepared the sea urchin spines as the "biodegradable magnesium-substituted tricalcium phosphate scaffolds". The important fact is researchers have developed this material maintaining the original structure and feature of the raw element. Physicians can drill and shape this biodegradable bone scaffold as per the required size.

Researchers noticed unique results when tested on beagles and rabbits. The test depicted the flow of the bone cells and the nutrients through the pores of the biodegradable bone scaffold and helped the bone formation. It is a true fact the sea urchin spines have unveiled a new dimension and developed a new way of treatment.
