Google is making a big leap on its next flagship pixel phones. As smartphone makers like Samsung and Apple are innovating their own flagship phones, they are said to be making its move to keep abreast with the two giant tech company. Latest news is now saying that they will also launch a curved screen for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.
Google is a multinational tech company well-known for rendering web-based services and products. But, in 2010, the giant search engine company starts to expand to the manufacturing of hardware products such as smartphones. Now, they are making a name of its own in the electronics and telecommunication industry as well.
But unlike Samsung and Apple, Google is still a small player in this field but each year they are building. But now, it seems that they are ready to keep pace with the two giant tech company as recent reports are spreading that they will introduce a curved screen on their next pixel phones.
According to Electronic Times, Google has stated that they are willing to put in one trillion won (approximately $880 million) of investment to LG Display company to build a facility and supply the flexible organic light emitting diode (OLED). The bendable OLED will be used for Google's next generation smartphones which happen to be the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.
The $880 million investment is said to be more than enough to put up one line production to generate the next generation flexible OLED. At this moment, there is short of supply on the current demand of OLED and it appears that this a good move for Google. They will be able to secure priority on the supply and steady out the demand of it.
On the separate report of Tech Radar, the curved screen display is not new to the market as Samsung have already used the design to its flagship phone this year, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. Aside from South Korean tech company, Apple is also showing interest in adopting the said feature on their next iPhone series. But, up until now, LG Display company hasn't decided yet whether to sign the proposal of Google so there still no done deal yet.
But, if ever LG Display will agree to supply the curved screens, Google will don't have enough time to incorporate it to the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Both Pixel phones were launched in October 2016 and expected to be released October this year.
