Redmond-based Microsoft has come out with a new Surface Laptop that costs $999. In a launch event on Tuesday, Microsoft introduced the new laptop stating that it's primarily aimed at students who mostly buy Apple Macbooks for their college purposes. The laptop comes in four color choices and runs on a new Windows 10 S operating system which they claim to be more secure than all other Windows 10 variants so far.
Regarding the color choices, reports from Bloomberg indicate that Microsoft will offer their new Surface laptop in colors like gold, platinum, blue and burgundy replacing the metal area in the premium surface devices to a more softer microfiber material around the keyboard area. With a display size of 13.5-inches, the display is actually a touchscreen powered by the latest generation of Intel processors.
Microsoft says their new Surface Laptop running Windows 10 S, will easily have a display on time of 14 hours which is excellent. But however, there are no actual reports verifying it yet. That said, the laptop weighs around 2.7 £, comparatively lesser than the Apple Macbook Air.
Details from CNN Technology reveals that Panos Panay, Microsoft's executive in charge of Surface products stressed that their Surface Laptops At $999 is clearly aimed at students who primarily purchase Apple MacBooks. "A lot of students use MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros," Panay said. He also mentioned that their new product on offer has a significantly longer battery life and slimmer in size while comparing to similar products from Apple.
The new Surface Laptop will run on a new Windows 10 operating system that Microsoft said, is more secure than other Windows 10 variants while also mentioning that the new laptop will only install apps from the Windows store for enhanced security. Microsoft also highlighted that partners will be able to use Windows 10 S operating system on their OEM devices. Companies like HP, Toshiba, and Dell will be coming out with their own variants with a price as low as $189 while looking to compete with Google's Chromebooks simultaneously.
