The software giant has released the latest Microsoft emergency patch on Monday to fix the latest flaw in its Windows Security Product against the zero-day exploit. The exploit was uncovered last week that able to penetrate the engine used for Microsoft Malware Protection.
In its Microsoft Security Advisory, which was released Monday, May 8, Microsoft suggested its users to download the latest Microsoft emergency patch to fix the security vulnerability in Windows operating system. The vulnerability addressed is the protection against a zero-day exploit, which was discovered earlier.
The zero-day exploit in Windows operating system was found over the weekend by Google Project Zero security experts Natalie Silvanovich and Tavis Ormandy, as reported by ZDNet. The zero-day exploit was found in the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine, or MsMpEng, used for the Windows security products such as Windows Defender. The latest Microsoft emergency patch combats the exploit after the Redmond-based company developed the patch rapidly.
Based on the Common Vulnerability and Exposures standard, the exploit was registered as CVE-2017-0290. The description of the vulnerabilities read that the vulnerability in zero-day exploit allows attackers to execute arbitrary binary code or causing the denial of service using a JavaScript code which was scanned by the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine. The latest Microsoft emergency patch closes the vulnerabilities and repels the zero-day exploit.
A zero-day exploit is a very harmful and severe vulnerability, because of its undisclosed nature. The vulnerability is called zero-day because it gives the software developer a zero day to create an antidote, such as the latest Microsoft emergency patch, to secure the system again.
Due to its concealed characteristics, zero-day exploit gives hackers convenience to take full advantage of the affected system. While for the software developer, the exploit gives them a very limited time window to handle the problem. Watch the report on the latest Microsoft emergency patch below:
