Samsung has been working on the foldable and stretchable screen for years. The Korean electronic giant is now ready to introduce the Samsung stretchable screen at the Society for Information Display (SID) 2017 conference in Los Angeles.
The Samsung stretchable OLED screen will be exhibited at the Display Week, a trade show and exhibition of the Society for Information Display, which is held at Los Angeles Convention Center on May 21 to 26. According to an official release from Samsung Display, as reported by Digital Trend, the new display will measures 9.1 inches diagonally and uses organic light-emitting diode technology to display images. Furthermore, this Samsung stretchable OLED screen can be flexed, bent, or dented and even rolled up to 12 millimeters without losing its original shape.
"While current flexible OLED is able to be transformed in only one side, this stretchable OLED can be transformed," the statement said about the Samsung stretchable OLED screen. "Whether curved, bent or rolled in both sides, above and below,”
There are many applications for this Samsung stretchable OLED screen. The wearable display, Internet of Things appliances and also the infotainment dashboard for the car.
However, according to GSM Arena, the stretchable and foldable screen technology is still in its early stages. Therefore, the Korean electronic giant will not hastily put its Samsung stretchable OLED screen into the commercial products.
Aside from its Samsung stretchable OLED screen, the company will also exhibit its 5.09-inch 3D OLED screen that doesn't require any glasses. Another invention from Samsung is the very high ultra density panel, with 1.96-inch size and 4K panel resolution that able to show 2250 ppi.
