Apple New MacOS High Sierra Features Aims To Improve VR Support Through Metal 2 Graphics Technology Update

Apple has just recently revealed that Mac devices will now have an all-powerful MacOS update known as OS X. Version 10.13. The OS was reported to carry the name “High Sierra” and will have new features that VR and Apple Mac users will truly enjoy.

According to CNET, Apple had just recently announced its latest operating system update for Apple’s Mac. The MacOS called High Sierra was said to have new features that will entice Apple users. Aside from new features, the apps used frequently by Mac users such as Photos, Safari and Mail were said to have improved changes as well.

However, the most anticipated new feature of High Sierra MacOS enables access to virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). An ARkit was also released by the Cupertino-based company to allow users to develop AR games for iOS devices. The OS’ Thunderbolt 3 and Metal 2 Graphic Technology was identified to allow developers tap in powerful external GPUs.

With that said, Macs were also said to support external GPUs and may enable plug in and play with VR headsets through an updated Metal 2 graphics technology in the future. Unity and Epic companies were said to bring their VR development tools to MacOS High Sierra. Steam VR beta is also mentioned to be made available by Valve in Mac devices.

Moreover, Live Photos were mentioned to have new effects like Loop, Bounce and Long Exposure with the MacOS High Sierra. The OS also enables users to disable or block autoplay in videos. Safari was said to have tons of improvement aside from the aforementioned auto play. The web app has an Intelligent Tracking Prevention feature now to disable ad trackers as reported by The Verge.

Nonetheless, the MacOS High Sierra is also equipped with the high-efficiency video coding (HEVC) to capture 4K videos with a smaller file size. A new Apple File System (APFS) was also said to have an upgraded system, security and performance. Safari’s Reader, iCloud File Sharing and Siri were also said to have improvements as well. The beta is now available for developers while the public will have to sign up for a beta that will occur in late June.
