Unprecedented Flooding Worst in Decades

ILLINOIS -- USA, Landmark flooding has devastated a huge part of the central US. The disaster was expected to happen and it did on the second week of March. Scientists refer to it as the "bomb cyclone" because it moved from the Rockies and into the Plains, which triggered the snow to melt. The extent of the damage has been huge and it has so far been the worst in the last ten years.

While the residents of Iowa and Nebraska are beginning to get back to their normal routine and the states have been cleaned up, those at the downstream are waiting for a huge flood to make the rivers overflow.

In Nebraska alone, an image released by Pete Ricketts, the Governor of Nebraska shows a cattle stranded due to the high rise of flood water. The flooding has indeed affected a lot of the residents across the US and its devastating effects is leaving a huge change in the lives of these people.

In fact, the strong current of floodwater has caused damage to the bridge in Genoa, Nebraska, cutting off the only means of transportation from one part of the island to another. It has since brought alarm to the people, causing some of them to worry about the supplies and other forms of help not being able to come in and reach them in time. The broken bridge would take a few months to fix and it will entail a huge amount of courage for the residents to see things through it.

In Hamburg, Iowa, many cars were reported to be submerged in water up to more half of its windshield. Although it has been reported that the floodwater is slowly receding, many homes and businesses are still seen to be surrounded by water. The reports have not been clear about the actual cost of the damages incurred by such great flooding, but it is easy to see that its damages are worth millions, not to mention the stress and pain that the flooding may have caused the citizens. The fear of sleeping through the night while floodwaters continue to rise is often understated.

Boats loaded with supplies and other help for the citizens pour in to provide relief. In some areas affected by the flood, boats have become the only way to deliver aid. Residents in Missouri stand by their porch and stare at the devastated lands before them. They look at the floodwater perhaps wondering what got them into such a disastrous situation. At least three deaths have been reported due to flooding. The full extent of the damages caused by the flood is yet to be determined.

An estimated amount of 1 billion dollars have been recorded to have been the cost of the devastation in various states in the US and the number only grows more each day. The problem of flooding may be caused by a lot of things, but global warming is definitely on top of the list. Global warming is not just a problem affecting the US, it is a problem that could cause a huge wipeout of life on Earth. That's something truly worthy of worrying about.
