Samsung’s from Landscape-to-Portrait Rotating TV for Millenials

You know that auto-rotate feature on your smartphone that changes from landscape when you're watching videos to portrait? Samsung is bringing that ideology to your TV in your living room. Samsung introduced its new Sero TV this week, which is a horizontal-wide television that can be flipped so that it is a vertical TV that is perfect for viewing Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok.

Samsung is going hard after millennials with their vertical Sero TV because they believe young consumers value vertically-based apps so much that they want to view them on their TVs at home. The South Korean tech company wants your home TV to act like your phone, but will anybody actually buy it?

The Sero features a 43-inch QLED display with 4K Ultra HD resolution that can be quickly and easily rotated to go from vertical to horizontal and vice versa. The television, which also has a 4.1-channel 60-watt speaker. connects to the users' phones to broadcast apps such as Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok onto the big screen. The TV was designed based on market research of millennials and their love of apps. I'm not exactly sure why you would need a top-of-the-line QLED screen to view photos and videos that are not high-resolution photos and videos.

However, it sounds as though you will need to get off the couch if you want to flip the TV. Do you really want to be a Vanna White walking around and flipping screens every time you go from a YouTube video to your TiKTok app?

"Samsung will continue introducing screens that respect personal consumer tastes," said Han Jong-hee, president of Samsung's video display business. "We will think outside the box to bring different types of screens and different user experiences."

The Sero debuts in South Korea next month, but Samsung has not announced if it will be available in other markets. The vertical 43-inch TV will have a hefty price of around 1,630 dollars, so maybe it actually isn't seriously made for millennials.
