Actress Lela Loren is one of the few celebrities who likes to get her hands dirty over her undoubted love for insects, bugs, and animals. More so, she's not the typical actress who considers acting as somewhat identical to glamour, fashion, and beauty. She finds similarities instead with biology, her original background, and acting in her current career. Loren discovered such similarities out of her curiosity which drew her to the Netflix project, 'Altered Carbon.'
Before falling in love with acting, the actress studied biology, and through these two fields, Loren found common threads in-between. In a video interview posted on The Bradford Era, she shared what she loves about biology, the big question, "What is this life?" and, "What does it mean to be human?"
Similarly, she says, acting asks all of those deeply-human questions too, only from a different angle. "You experience them from the inside and out," she added.

A New Role to Portray
Now on its second season, "Altered Carbon," introduces Loren as one of its new characters. In this Netflix sci-fi series, the plays the role of Danica Harlan, a newly-appointed governor of Harlan's world because of the mysterious disappearance of her father. While her senior council frequently doubts her, Loren's portrayal is determined to set Harlan's world free, not just from the war, but from the exploitation of Protectorate too, of their most treasured resource, alloy.
Instead of getting herself enrolled in an art class, she found herself registered in an acting class for beginners. Loren's science background becomes connected with her acting through memorization. She said, there are so many things to memorize in both acting and science. And, in her curiosity, she admitted, she approaches a character and that she is relentlessly curious.
Biologist, Before an Actress
Unlike most female celebrities, Loren was not the typical girl growing up who dreamed of becoming a stage, TV or movie performer. Her father is from the academe and she would always assume she would be directed to the same field, as well. As earlier mentioned, the biologist turned actress loved animals and she was also very fond of rescuing them.
Doing so, the actress shared, was a very important part of her life as a child. And, as she grew up, Loren recounted having four pet cats and lots of dogs-all on top of a scrub jay. Among the animals she rescued were birds, frogs, snakes, and mice. Combining her expectation to pursue a career in the academe, and her love for the animal, it was Loren's ardent dream to become a biologist. This was a direction in her career that this actress planned on taking up until she entered college.
Altered Carbon happens more than three centuries in the future. It takes place in a society changed by new technology. This series presents how consciousness can be digitized, death as a non-permanent thing anymore, and those bodies if humans are interchangeable. This 2nd season of the series finds the only surviving soldier of a troop of astronomical warriors that continues his hundreds of years of old quest in finding a lost love.
