A man from the United States claimed that his reproductive organ shrank by an inch and a half due to the effect of vascular damage that occurred when he was diagnosed with a COVID-19 infection. The patient, who is still in his 30s, claims that the adverse effect of the coronavirus on his penis has significantly impacted his lifestyle. Experts noted that the condition incurred to the individual is indeed an erectile dysfunction, which rarely manifests on patients who tested positive of COVID-19.
The case of COVID-induced erectile dysfunction instantly became an eye-opener. The unusual symptom of the disease was backed up by numerous scholars, saying that the effects on the organ's tissues would likely be permanent. Although the impact was obvious, the scientific community was seemingly divided about the case. Throughout the surge of the issue, several urology experts claimed that there is still hope for the patient to get back the lost length of his organ through certain rehabilitation procedures.
COVID-19 Survivor Lost 1.5 Inches of Penis Length
According to the reports, the man lost 1.5 inches of his penis length after contracting COVID-19. The impact brought the man difficulties in many aspects of his lifestyle, including self-confidence and performance during sexual activities.
The patient contracted the coronavirus in July 2021. Although he survived the risks of the infection, the man noticed something strange on his reproductive organ right after recovery. When examined, the patient was confirmed to have erectile dysfunction. The man was relayed with several treatments for the condition over time but to no avail.
Albany Medical College urologist Charles Welliver said in a Daily Mail report that the severity of the erectile tissue damage on the patient's penis, which was evidently brought by COVID-19 infection, is indeed a long-term effect and could indeed reduce the size of the organ.
The bizarre COVID-19 symptom was investigated by the experts from the University College London with the help of 3,400 individuals. It was found that 200 of the participants developed the rare effect of the coronavirus on their penis. The study was published in the journal EClinical Medicine, titled "Characterizing long COVID in an international cohort: 7 months of symptoms and their impact."
Coronavirus Could Infect Penis Organ, According to Experts
Separate research was conducted by the team from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in response to the case. According to their findings, the presence of the coronavirus in the penis organ itself during the infection could trigger a severe effect called endothelial cell dysfunction. This condition could eventually lead to erectile dysfunction.
However, additional studies must be met to build concrete evidence to prove this concept. The paper for this research was published in The World Journal of Men's Health, titled "Hispathology and Ultrastructural Findings of Fatal COVID-19 Infections on Testis."
In the report, Oregon-based urology expert Ashley Winter, who was not part of the studies, said that they support the legitimacy of the penis condition through COVID-19 infections. The expert explained that erectile dysfunction is a serious matter and could reduce penis length.
