Elon Musk's Tesla plans to open its Supercharger network to utilize other vehicles manufactured by other companies. The implementation of this change would take effect later this year in the United States. The White House announced the service of these charging sites.
The giant electric car company has already opened some of its charging stations in regions of Europe for other non-Tesla vehicles. The implementation of the Supercharger plugs for other models was first initiated as part of a limited pilot program suggested by the union.
Despite the open charging stations in the EU, the US government did not have any insights regarding the collaborative advancement for non-Tesla owners until today.
White House Says Tesla Charging Stations Wil Be Available for Other Electric Vehicles This Year
According to a fact sheet released by the White House on June 28, owners of electric vehicles assembled by other manufacturers could use Superchargers as early as the last quarter of 2022.
The White House explained that the Supercharger equipment with the capacity to power up non-Tesla EV drivers would be mass-produced by Tesla in North America by the end of the year.
Reports said that Tesla has no comments regarding the big change the company and the US government have set up. One of the main reasons that insiders are being challenged is that Elon Musk disbanded the company's PR committee in 2019.
It is also unclear if the government intended to include Tesla on its published fact sheet and received a green light for the announcement of the massive project.
In previous months, Elon Musk dropped remarks and demonstrated a somewhat hostile response to President Joe Biden's administration. The president, on the other hand, also refrains from involving and even mentioning the tech giant and even Tesla when discussing the plans associating federal matters with the automotive industry.
What Non-Tesla Owners Should Expect from Supercharger Networks
Tesla's Superchargers are regarded as one of the most innovative and functional systems of EV charging networks. These stations are fast, reliable, and efficient but were only intended for the use of Tesla drivers across the globe.
Since its launch, Elon Musk has been interested in opening up specialized Superchargers that other car owners could utilize. Last year, Tesla opened its EV charging stations to some countries in the EU, including France, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, and Finland. Additional stations were opened in Spain, Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
Part of the upcoming wide transition in the US would require non-Tesla car owners to download an app for accessing the Supercharger stations. Prompt will include selection between Tesla and non-Tesla vehicles for the charging process and will allocate the nearest possible station from the entire network across the country.
Meanwhile, Tesla owners will be able to use the stations as they normally do. The company will provide additional monitoring efforts to manage the congestion among the network and record other user concerns, reports The Verge.
