A dog saved its owner from a deadly black mamba. Snake catcher Nick Evans shared the story on social media.
Dog, Owner Save Each Other From Black Mamba
Evans shared on Facebook an encounter between a dog and an owner against a deadly black mamba for a valuable reason. According to him, he got the snake Friday, and he thought of sharing it to warn pet owners how to react when their dog discovers a snake.
A man in Escombe, Queensburgh, noticed that his dog had kept him away from the couch he sits on every afternoon. He found it strange, so he moved the couch after two days and discovered a hidden black mamba beneath it. The beast was seven-foot-two long, according to Daily Star.
When the snake was exposed, the rottweiler attempted to attack the snake, which it deemed as a threat. Fortunately, the owner grabbed his pet and dragged it inside his home.
Evans was "super impressed" with the homeowner's reaction, noting that not everyone reacts that way because most will leave their dogs to fight the snake.
Evans said he received many calls where people let their dog attack the snake, resulting in a dead snake and at least one dead dog. He believed it was due to panic.
According to him, the man from Escombe reacted appropriately and encouraged other dog owners to do the same. Evans said, never let your dog kill a snake for you because it can end badly for the dog too.
However, he also acknowledged some instances when dogs find the snakes first and attack them without their owners' knowledge.
Dogs vs. Snakes
Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and hearing, making it easy for them to detect snakes. This is probably why the dog immediately noticed the hidden black mamba behind the couch.
Meanwhile, snakes don't like to be around dogs because they are loud, big, and annoying, per Cherish. However, when they cross paths, both can end up dying.
Dogs can kill snakes. However, when they fight a poisonous snake, they could also end up dying.
For instance, in Madurai, a pet dog died fighting off a poisonous snake. The canine successfully killed the reptile that crept on the veranda of the homeowner's house.
The female Bully Kutta (Indian mastiff) endured multiple bites but still overpowered and killed the three-foot-long Russell's viper. The family members woke up the following day and found the dead snake and the dog - alive but unconscious.
The dog was in a coma due to the poison and died a day later. The family was sad but thankful for their brave protector, the Times of India reported.
Jim Stockley also shared a snap of his pet dog, a Jack Russell named Batman, on Quora. According to him, Batman killed five Mozambique Spitting Cobra (Naja mossambic) in his knowledge.
Batman reportedly developed a strategy to get a hold of the back of the snakes' heads. However, the sixth snake, a cobra, got him, and Batman died in his arms while they were at the vet for surgery.
