The Great Pyramid of Giza is considered one of the seven wonders of the world as its architecture holds the early innovations of the Egyptians. As such, the pyramids have remained extremely popular, resulting in some people no longer understanding why it's so exciting.
Great Pyramid of Giza
According to PBS, the Great Pyramid of Giza is 146.5 meters tall with estimations that it was once 9.5 meters taller. Over the years, the pyramid has lost this height resulting in it currently standing at 137 meters.
The estimation is that the pyramid is actually 4,000 years old; and according to Go Ahead Tours, it remained the tallest building in the world for several years. The Great Pyramid of Giza lost its top ranking to England's Lincoln Cathedral, which was completed in 1311.
The pyramid was estimated to take 20 years to build and was completed in 2560 B.C., and is the oldest and largest of the nine Giza Necropolis pyramids, which remain king Khufu's final resting place.
At the peak of its construction, Egyptologists believed that there were around 20,000 people working to construct the pyramids. Certain scholars suggest that the ramp and pulley system was used by the Egyptians to lift heavy stones to form the pyramid.
Every single limestone block used on the pyramid weighs two tons, which was why its construction remained a mystery for a long time.

Facts About the Pyramids of Giza
On The Go Tours reports other interesting facts about the pyramids of Giza in general, starting with the fact that there are over 130 pyramids scattered around where Ancient Egypt should've been.
All of these pyramids were constructed on the River Nile's west bank since this is where the sun sets. This was an important detail since it represented the realm of the dead.
Previously, the Pyramids of Giza were also covered in limestone, which gave it a white casing that would reflect the rays of the sun. However, the casing disappeared over time through earthquakes, rubble, and other factors.
It is also the last remaining oldest Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The list previously included the Olympia's Statue of Zeus, Turkey's Temple of Artemis, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, and they also no longer existent Colossus of Rhodes.
Differences in the Pyramids
Ancient Egypt is closely synonymous with hieroglyphics which is why the Great Pyramid of Giza is so surprising. As such, there aren't any writings or hieroglyphics found inside the pyramid, making it different from other Egyptian structures.
Another interesting thing about the Great Pyramid was that it had a granite coffer inside of its main chamber which was a solid granite piece. Upon its discovery, it was found to have been too large to fit the passageways, leading to the conclusion that the Great Pyramid was built around the coffer.
