A fisherman was able to beat records by catching a bizarre fish that appeared to have human-like teeth.

Fisherman Catches Massive Sheepshead Fish With Human-Like Teeth

The novel catch came as 38-year-old Brian Summerlin was fishing in Tangier Sound in Maryland. He noticed that there was something massive that ended up snagging his fishing line.

The massive fish catch was apparently a sheepshead fish. Aside from having human-like teeth, these creatures are known to be bait-stealers and difficult to catch.

It was not easy to bring the fish to the surface. Mr. Summerlin explains that these creatures are really hard-fighting ones that aim to reach the ocean's bottom. In several cases, they end up getting lost as they aim for a structure at the bottom that could cut the fishing line.

Mr. Summerlin found it difficult and stressful to pull up the fish as it was exerting a force equivalent to around 11 kilograms to drag under the boat. He attributes his novel catch to the advice he got to lower down the line so that it won't end up getting popped.

The fisherman knew that he hit a record smasher when he saw the bizarre fish. Interestingly, the sheepshead was found to weigh around 7.5 kilograms, beating earlier August 2020 records of 6.39 kilograms.

Interestingly, the fish already had a fish inside its mouth. Mr. Summerlin recognized the hook as one of his own that he lost roughly an hour before the catch.

Sheepshead Fish

Mr. Summerlin explains that sheepsheads are amazing fish that are able to adapt to the food they consume. Their front teeth are capable of biting any barnacles underwater.

Aside from having front teeth, these creatures also have molar-like teeth on the bottom and top portions of their mouths. These molar-like teeth aid with crushing crustaceans.

He also shares that his daughter wants to keep the fish teeth under her pillow for the tooth fairy. This is because the fish's odd set of teeth really resembles that of humans.

These aquatic creatures dwell in marine estuaries and habitats within the western Atlantic Ocean, all the way from eastern Canada's Nova Scotia to the eastern US and coast of Central America. They also live as far as southern Brazil.

Sheepshead fish typically dwell in saltwater but can be found occasionally in freshwater environments. During early spring and late winter, they move offshore for spawning. They can also travel as deep as 49 feet.
