Germany-based green technology company P1 Performance Fuels GmbH has announced its plans to bring its fossil-free fuels into the mass market, providing a clean and sustainable alternative to polluting fossil fuels.
The P1 Super Eco100 Pro fossil-free fuel has registered a reduction of 77.4% in CO2 emissions compared to legacy fuel. It has also been shown to emit less NOx, HC, and particulate matter, and helps companies with managing their Scope 3 emissions to reach their sustainability goals. As it scales up its production, P1 Fuels aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 94% compared to legacy fossil fuels.
P1 Fuels has a proven track record of many successful years with motorsports organizations, as well as more than 20 vehicle original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), to ensure that the fossil-free fuels perform identically to regular fuel, even in very high and very low temperatures. In 2021, P1 Fuels beat out several multinational oil companies to be named the sole fuel supplier to the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) for the 2022-2024 seasons. Vehicles powered by P1's fuels have outraced several fossil fuel-using vehicles, proving its competitive performance.
Aside from the motorsports industry, P1 Fuels has developed strong relationships with the historic vehicle community, allowing classic car enthusiasts to enjoy the sport with minimal environmental impact.
According to CEO Martin Popilka, P1 Fuels was initially established to find a sustainable way to enjoy motorsports by creating a fuel that emits less greenhouse gasses. However, the climate emergency has led the company to realize that such fuels must be made available to the mass market in order to reduce the negative environmental impact of the mobility sector, which amounts to 8 gigatons of CO2 emissions or 21% of global CO2 emissions. Of this total, 41% is attributed to passenger cars.
P1 Fuels is currently headquartered in Berlin, with production facilities in Germany and Belgium.
Popilka says: "Over many years, we have established a successful and trustworthy partnership with the FIA in motorsports. We have demonstrated our expertise, and now, it is the opportune moment to introduce our fossil-free fuel to the mass market. That's why we started building a demonstrator plant in Germany that will open in 2024, while an industrial-sized plant is scheduled for 2029. Over the next five years, we will be working hard to scale up our production capacity and have a bigger impact in the market. This allows us to sell our fossil-free fuels at a competitive price to fossil fuels via gas stations, which will be the next step in our ultimate goal to provide a cost-effective and identically performing replacement for fossil fuels. This will prove extremely valuable in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping solve the climate crisis."
Currently, P1 fossil-free fuel is EN 228-compliant, making it road-legal in the European Union and the UK. It also meets the Japanese Industrial Standard and is certified by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), and variations of the fuel are approved for the US market.
