Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be applied in almost everything, including coffee. Kaffa Roastery, a coffee roaster based in Finland, partners with an AI startup to deliver new blends of morning cuppa.
AI-Conic Coffee Blend From Kaffa Roastery and Elev
Antti Merilehto, the founder of Elev, has long been a Kaffa Roastery customer. The partnership started as a means of evaluating whether artificial intelligence (AI) could be helpful in a field as traditionally artisanal as specialty coffee. And, one would think it is a pretty excellent chance for PR.
According to Elev, it used AI in process design and bean selection. Elev does not create its models. Instead, it optimizes ChatGPT for businesses and provides training on Microsoft's Copilot. Kaffa "took it from there" after figuring out the roasting profile.
The combination contains four distinct bean varieties. It is made up of 40% Brazil (Fazenda Pinhal), 25% each of Guatemala (La Bolsa) and Colombia (San Lorenzo), and 10% Ethiopia (Geruke).
Blends are typically produced using two or three types of beans. Kaffa roasters seemed astonished by the model choice of four distinct ones, but after blind tasting, they concluded that the blend was perfect and did not need any human assistance.
Kaffa presented the AI-conic coffee mix at the Helsinki Coffee Festival, which was held at the Helsinki Cable Factory this past weekend.
AI created a tasting note description for its AI-conic blend that reads, "Juicy and dynamic." A harmonious combination of rich fruitiness and sweetness.
"This (trial) was the first step in seeing how AI could help us in the future," Kaffa's founder and managing director, Svante Hampf, told the Associated Press during the festival. "I think AI has plenty to offer us in the long run. We are particularly impressed by the coffee taste descriptions it created."
Following this accomplishment, it will not be surprising if we will see roasting profiles set by AI in the future.
Benefits of Drinking Coffee
Brazilian researchers at the University of Sao Paulo have found some intriguing health benefits of coffee use. The researchers discovered that consuming a certain level of caffeine causes the body to react more strongly to physical activity and makes one more alert.
Additionally, he conducted experiments on 30 cyclists and found that consuming coffee 30 minutes before exercise increases the body's ability to process activities. Thus, it is true that consuming coffee before working out helps burn free fatty acids and promotes weight loss. He added that caffeine also improves happiness and mood.
Researchers from Imperial College London, the University of Bristol, and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden recommended that calorie-free caffeinated beverages be considered a possible method of decreasing body fat levels.
Their research suggests that blood caffeine levels may impact body fat levels and change the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
Genetically predicted higher plasma caffeine levels were associated with lower body fat mass and BMI. Moreover, higher plasma caffeine concentrations linked to genetic indications were associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
