Facebook Gives Thumbs-Up To "Dislike" Button

Finally, the popular Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has announced the concept of creating a 'dislike' button after rejecting the idea in the previous years.

In a report from the Financial Review, Zuckerberg stated during a discussion at the Silicon Valley headquarters that sometimes users do not want to express their thoughts and just want to vote it down.

"Not every moment is a good moment, and if you are sharing something that is sad, whether it's something in current events, like the refugees crisis that touches you, or if a family member passed away, then it may not feel comfortable to like that post," Zuckerberg quoted.

He added that they want to give the Facebook users a more options to express their feelings. "If you're expressing something sad . . . it may not feel comfortable to 'like' that post, but your friends and people want to be able to express that they understand," Zuckerberg was quoted at TIME saying.

What made up their mind?

Zuckerberg illustrated the migrant crisis in Syria or a dying family member. He reiterated in a report that Facebook users might not use the 'like' button and would express sadness. These incidents want an ability to express empathy, he added. If someone feels sad and may not feel comfortable to hit the 'like'.

According to reports, it wasn't clearly stated if it is literally 'dislike' button or another. Testing will implement before the wider roll out.

"We've been working on this for a while," said Zuckerberg and he described their move as 'surprisingly complicated'.

From the perspective of an analyst

A social media analyst from eMarketer named Debra Aho Williamson was mentioned at the Financial Review stating that it was difficult to conceive the 'dislike' button which could expressed the negative thoughts of a user to a certain Facebook post.

Williamson added that there are many negative posts in Facebook, which will make easier for the users to dislike in one click that could make this an uglier and meaner place.

The analyst added that "Overall, it's probably a good thing to enable people to express feelings and emotions that they can't express through a like button."
