LG Electronics has confirmed the OS update for two of its previously launched flagship smartphones, the G4, and the V10. The two devices will be receiving OS upgrade of Android 7.0 Nougat version following backlash from the users.
According to The Korea Times, the new OS update will be available on the V10 in the second quarter of the year, while the G4 will have the same in the third. The schedule has been announced only for the Korean users for now. Notices for the non-Korean territories will be released later in the year by LG.
LG had formerly announced that the G4 and V10 will not receive any further upgrades on their OS, owing to the insecure compatibility between the devices' hardware specifications and the new software. LG claimed that the two smartphones were programmed to best perform under the Android 5.0 and Android 6.0 OS.
There was a huge outcry on this issue from the customers, who found the Android 7.0 OS was available for the LG Nexus 5X. The device had the same application processor, the SnapDragon 808, as was present in the G4 and V10. Reportedly, LG could not afford any more goof-ups, having already suffered a weak sales figure in the last year due to the underperformance of another flagship mobile, the G5.
According to Slash Gear, the LG G4 and V10 owners have now been relieved of their agony, as the company announced the latest update to be available for the two devices this year. LG, though, has not given any details about its plan regarding the "compatibility problems" regarding the two devices that were cited before.
LG has also come out with its latest smartphone, the G6 at this year's Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain. The company is hoping that the new flagship smartphone will help minimize the huge amount of loss incurred last year after the G5 did not become as popular as it was expected within the customers.
