GeForce GTX series is renowned for its GPU's (Graphic Processing Unit). The recently launched GeForce GTX 1080 Ti takes the performance level to an extreme and comes out as a beast in various tests.
Currently, GTX 1080 Ti may be the best GPU for 4K and 60 FPS gameplay. Considering its performance benchmarks, it might be good enough for future resolutions of 6k and beyond. According to Tom's Hardware, to understand the overclocking capability of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, the GPU was aided by Water-cooling. The third party and hybrid coolers were totally omitted in the experiment. A Titan X compatible full copper block was installed on the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. The main reason behind this was to find out the sustainability of the GPU, exceeding its 2 GHz capacity.
The copper block used in this case is known by the name of "Aquacomputer's kryographics Pascal for NVIDIA Titan X". Since the Titan X and GeForce GTX 1080 Ti have the exact same PCB, the copper block was used without any doubt in the experiment. After filling its block and tubing with fluid, the card was connected to the bench table using quick-connects. It was very satisfying to find out that the card made its way to 2.1 GHz without any hiccups. The limit of the GPU was further pushed by running rendering tasks using 3ds Max, Nvidia Iray, LuxRender and Furmark's one-hour stress taste.
Two games, Metro: Last Night at Ultra HD and The Witcher 3 were used to bring out the result of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti's resilience. It was found that the GPU hits 2101 MHz during the tests. However, GPU boost clocks rates are not always the same depending on load, sometimes dropping to 2088MHz. At times, the frequency even goes down to 2 GHz only to recover quickly.
According to PC Gamer, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti regularly bumps into the power limit when overclocked.Despite that, the GTX 1080 puts all the previous GPU's to shame by topping all performance benchmarks. An increment in the power limit can see a decent performance improvement without touching the clock speeds. It is claimed to be a good experience to raise the power limit without any change in the clock speeds.
All in all, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is almost similar in characteristics with the rest of the "Pascal" lineup when it comes to overclocking. The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is priced at $700 and considering the raw power on offer, this GPU more than justifies that whopping price tag.
