Food Fad: 'Clean Eating' May Not Be As Healthy As It Is Believed To Be

Clean eating is the trend of eating food in their natural state, thus eliminating any form of sugar in it. This type of diet encourages the exclusion of gluten free foods and also dairy, which might affect the body adversely, says a study.

According to BBC, Clean eating at times consists of food to be eaten in its raw stage. Clean eating point towards the fact that it eradicates the intake of processed foods. However, some people are of the opinion that Clean eating is not about healthy food, rather it is more about faddish food. This can cause harm to one's body in many ways.

Experts say that mostly teenagers, especially girls who are much concerned about how they look and are willing to give up food in order to look better, are attracted towards clean eating. People taking on this kind of diet are mostly inclined towards a vegetable based diet, which makes them look good from the outside, but on the inside, there might be a deficiency of proper nutrition. Experts suggest this happens due to the unavailability of alternatives for food like wheat and dairy.

According to Mail Online, the groundbreaking Horizon documentary reveals a lot of truth behind the beautiful and charming smiles and the glowing skins of people who take to the clean eating. It says that the diet can eventually have catastrophic effects on the body and mind of the people who are following it.

The main disadvantage, as per the experts, of clean eating, is that it can lead its followers towards the shunning of essential nutrients that are required for a young growing body. Also, it allegedly provokes people towards the fixating of food which is not actually healthy. Many of the people following clean diet happen to develop "orthorexia", which often turns into more serious diseases like anorexia and bulimia, illnesses faced by a number of young people globally.

The main problem, say the experts, is the fact that this clean eating comes from people who are personal bloggers or people who just give out beauty tips. Accomplished doctors or nutritionists do not give out health advice for shunning regular diet for looking beautiful and maintaining a slim body.
