Southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales are experiencing wild weather in recent days as officials track "concerning weather system" off the coast. That brought heavy rainfall and severe flooding. But it also brings unlikely teamwork from a snake, a frog, and a pair of mice as they try to survive the floodwater due to harsh weather.
Only in Australia: Unlikely Teamwork of Prey and Predator Saved Them All
People commenting on social media posts about the unlikely teamwork of a predator and its prey said that it is amazing to see the animals help out each other. MailOnline reported that the smaller animals hitched a ride on the large black snake while they were all trapped in a rainwater tank in Queensland as it is flooded after heavy rainfall.
There were several videos of this unusual interaction between the snake, frog, and pair of mice. It showed that aside from the three animals on the snake's back, there were also several beetles, and other frogs trying to escape out of the tank.
The videos also showed that rescuers were trying to save them using a yellow pole. But it only agitated the snake and began to swim laps of the tank, causing the beetle and one of the mice to fall from its back. Meanwhile, the frog and the remaining mouse continued to hold on to the snake.
Eventually, all animals were rescued ad released back into the bush, according to local news outlet 7News. In regards to the unusual teamwork of the animals, Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers explained that many animals are also like humans as they work together to help and keep each other safe during a crisis.
They also urge people to be always on alert for sea snakes after receiving some reports of rescuing several of them in the past 24 hours. Some people on social media also commented that the feat that the animals displayed might be the most Australian thing they have seen since Aussies help each other out during tough times.
Flooding in Queensland
Last week, Australia's Bureau of Meteorology predicted that there is a high chance of heavy rainfall that is in the top 20% of the country's historical records for another week. The Guardian reported that the forecast comes as the body of a motorcyclist missing in the floods in Queensland was found after the flood swept his motorbike away a day before.
As of writing, local news outlet 9News reported that the southeast Queensland flooding has claimed yet another life and brought the total to eight. The police said that the 50-year-old man drove his car at 3 am but was caught in the flood. Gold Coast surf lifesavers discovered his and his dog's body in the morning.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said that there were 1,544 people already in evacuation centers as floodwaters continued to rise. As of now, over 1,000 schools in the area are closed, and more than 18,000 houses are affected.
