Last year Samsung and LG had launched their smartphone flagships the Galaxy S7 and the G5 on the same day respectively, which closed the market of LG by a fair bit. But this year LG will have the upper hand over Samsung as they are launching G6 early and it gives the opportunity to control the market.
This year competition between two South Korean tech giants with their latest product is going to be really interesting. Both of these smartphones are expected to have completely different specs and features.
It is expected that LG G6 will launch with a luxurious look with glass or metal body with 5.7-inch quad HD display. At the same time, Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with curve version and they will launch two different display sizes of 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch with 4K or quad HD resolution.
The aspect ratio of both of these smartphones is also going to be different. Samsung Galaxy S8 may have slightly wider 18.5:9 screen aspect ratio compared to G6 with 18:9. The dimension of Galaxy S8 slightly bigger than S7 with 148.90 x 68 x 8mm when compared to G6 with a dimension of 148.8 x 72.3 x 8.3mm.
The battery capacity of both of these smartphones is also going to be different. Galaxy S8 will have a 3000mAh battery while G6 have 3200mAh bigger battery backup. However, the battery is not going to be user-replaceable, because this year LG is going for a premium waterproof design and also include heat pipes to keep cool of the battery.
The Galaxy S8 will come with a 12MP rear camera, an 8MP front camera having f/1.7 greater aperture with the larger pixel. But LG has not revealed any kind of details regarding the camera of G6. Though it may come with a dual lens feature.
LG G6 may have additional features like 32 GB storage, wireless charger, USB-C port for charging, Old Snapdragon 821 processor, Google assistance or Alexa, improved noiseless audio, front mounted fingerprint scanner, more modules etc.
For S8 they have 3GHz Exynos 8895 or 3.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 10mm chip and 4GB or 6GB of RAM and a Gear VR, Iris scanner set etc.LG G6 is expected to have a price around $600 whereas S8 will range around $500-$600.
